At First Church, the opportunity to volunteer is available in many of our ministries. Below is a list of all the current volunteer opportunities at First Church. If an online sign up is currently available, there will be a link to it.
In existence in Lawrence since 1994 and hosted by First Church for nearly 20 years, Jubilee Cafe is a collaborative effort with the students of KU to provide a free breakfast to anyone who would like to dine. We serve on Tuesdays and Fridays in Brady Hall, 7:00-8:00 am, providing restaurant-style service and a menu featuring such favorites as scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes, and biscuits and gravy. The volunteer commitment for Jubilee Cafe is generally 5:45-8:00 am. No training is necessary to volunteer—all we ask is that you sign-up in advance through our online sign up.
First Church hosts Family Promise four times a year. Our Church’s next host week runs from November 4th through 11th. To sign up to volunteer click the button below and enter the code “1234”.
Harvesters Food Distribution
Since 2015, First Church has been hosting the Harvesters mobile food pantry once a month. A mobile food pantry is program that allows Harvesters to distribute nutritious, perishable food in a timely manner to food insecure families. Volunteers are needed on the second Saturday of every month from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm at Lawrence First United Methodist Church West Campus. Volunteers will be outside helping with traffic flow, sign-in sheets, loading people’s cars (must be able to lift 5-20 lbs. repetitively), and a bit of clean-up.
Lawrence Interdenominational Food Pantry
LINK provides a hot lunch to those in need in the Lawrence Community. Four days a week, LINK provides food to 150-200 guests. First Church volunteers to prepare and serve LINK as a congregation every other month, generally on the 3rd Sunday of the month. A link to the volunteer sign up will be posted a few weeks before the date of LINK. Learn more about donation requirements at the LINK website, found here: http://www.linklawrence.org/how-to-help/
