Generosity Statement
In God’s upside-down kingdom we are called to stand out, to be different, to be extraordinary! To live against the grain, to challenge the status quo, to push the envelope in all areas of our lives. To love without exception, to go the extra mile and to give sacrificially – it’s not only who we are called to be – It’s just flippin’ fun!
Generosity humbles us:
- Understanding that all we have comes from God makes us less stingy.
- We are able to move from a mindset of scarcity to a realization of God’s abundance.
Generosity connects us:
- When we grow in generosity, we grow closer to God and to one another.
- Understanding God’s generosity to all changes our perspective and shows us how we are to live and care for one another.
- Our financial giving changes lives. Period.
- There is great joy in knowing that through our gifts someone has found hope, felt worthy or wanted to know more about this Jesus.
- Can I get an Amen?
Generosity transforms us:
- We are changed from the inside out!
- As much as we’d like to, we don’t get to choose what part of discipleship warrants our obedience–Prayers, yes. Presence, of course. Service, I’ll be there. Gifts, if l have some left over. Witness, not likely.
- If that stung a little, c’mon beloved–step out, step up and take a risk –God’s gotchu! Because when you do, there ain’t no goin’ back–you are on your way to becoming who you are called to be!
As we walk on the Pathways to Generosity,
we are moving forward in our spiritual
journeys to be more like Christ. Jesus said
that “where your treasure is, there your
heart will be also.”
Steps on the Giving Path
Beginning
Give occasionally.
Exploring
Give regularly.
Growing
Give a planned percent of income.
Deepening
Give an increased percent of income.
Tithing
Give ten percent of income.
Transforming
Give in an extravagant way beyond the tithe.
It is God’s intention that we grow more
generous and take bigger steps in our
giving as we become more aware of how
rightly God has blessed us in Christ.
